FORUM NORTH

Workplace Safety & Prevention Services (WSPS) is presenting “Partners in Prevention 2026”, a Regional Health & Safety Conference, at the Valhalla Hotel and Conference Centre on October 28 and 29, 2026 in Thunder Bay.  WSPS is a not-for-profit health and safety organization in Ontario, serving more than 174,000 member firms and 4.2 million workers across the agricultural, manufacturing and service sectors.

Every workplace in Ontario has a story—moments of challenge, resilience, and lessons learned. This conference brings those stories to the forefront, showing how real experiences shape practical strategies that protect both people and businesses. By sharing narratives of overcoming obstacles and translating them into actionable health and safety practices, participants will see how lived experience becomes the blueprint for stronger planning, safer operations, and sustainable success.

On October 28 from 11:00 am to noon, Hayley Yorke, Partner, and Emily Slessor, Associate Lawyer, will be addressing “Employment Law Essentials for Managers: Accommodation, Harassment & Workplace”. This presentation will provide managers with a practical framework for navigating challenging workplace situations where an employee raises concerns related to human rights-protected grounds, workplace harassment, or other circumstances that may trigger an employer’s obligations under the Human Rights Code or the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA). Using realistic workplace scenarios, they will explore employee’s rights and manager’s correspondence obligations to the employee who raises concerns about workplace health and safety.
