O’Neill Associates is pleased to welcome Laura Ogden to our law firm. This fall, Laura is completing her Practice Placement at O’Neill Associates in her final year at the Bora Laskin Faculty of Law. Originally from Thunder Bay, she now resides on Vancouver Island with her husband following an 8-year stopover in Calgary. In her first year of law school, Laura volunteered with Pro Bono Students Canada, working on the Dryden Mill Project of the Thunder Bay & District Injured Workers Support Group, and she was elected by her peers to serve as the President of the Law Students’ Society. Laura sharpened her legal research skills working for a year with the Law Commission of Ontario as a Student Researcher on the Protection Orders Project and was selected as the researcher for Bora Laskin’s Wilson moot team (constitutional law). Laura holds a Psychology Degree (Lakehead University) and a Social Service Worker Diploma (Confederation College), which led to working in social services for 15 years before applying to law school as a mature student. As a union steward in Alberta, Laura gained valuable knowledge of collective agreement bargaining and occupational health and safety, and this is when she first considered a legal career. In her free time, Laura enjoys thrift shopping, paddle boarding, gardening and hiking.
O’Neill Associates is always proud to support students from the Bora Laskin Faculty of Law (Lakehead University, Thunder Bay) through the school’s unique Integrated Practice Curriculum (IPC) Program. All of the associate lawyers at OA are graduates of the Bora Laskin Faculty of Law. This is just a testament as to the exceptional talent being produced by this distinctive Law School.
